Based out of Indiana and founded in 2001, Swift Enterprises started out as a husband and wife team working closely with Purdue University to innovate new ways of creating fuel for cars and airplanes. They now have two products, the Swift Fuel for planes and Swift Cell for cars, both of which offer efficiency gains and environmental benefits over traditional alternatives.
Swift Fuel is designed to be used with piston style airplanes instead of leaded gasoline (which is set to be banned in the US and Europe by 2010). You may recall that cars used to run on leaded gasoline. Planes have been given a break but with time running short Swift Fuel is in an excellent position as a biomass alternative with high octane and low impact on the environment.
The Swift Cell is an Ethanol style technology said to be priced at $2,000 (where more conventional cells cost ~$20K) that can extend the range of an electric vehicle to over 100 miles per gallon.
